Matsutakes are white with scales in shades of crimson and brown that give the mushroom a filthy or shaggy appearance. The shut, attached gills and spore print are each white, and flesh is white and company. Gills turn out to be tinged with tan as mushrooms experienced, and they stain pinkish brown.
